Flashcard Generator ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Flashcard Generator mobile application (the "App"). This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data when you use our App.

1. Data Processing

Important: Your PDF content and text input are processed via OpenAI APIs to generate flashcards. Per OpenAI's API data usage policy, data submitted through their API is NOT used to train their models. Your content is processed solely to generate your flashcards and is not retained by OpenAI for model improvement purposes.

When you submit text or upload a PDF:

The content is sent securely to OpenAI's API for processing
Flashcards are generated and returned to you
OpenAI does not use API data to train or improve their models

2. Data Retention

Your flashcard history is stored on our servers for exactly 30 days from the date of creation. After 30 days, your flashcard sets are automatically and permanently deleted from our servers.

This retention period allows you to:

Access your recently generated flashcards for study
Review and rename your flashcard sets
Maintain privacy through automatic data expiration

3. Device Identification

We use a Device ID to associate your flashcard history with your device. This approach:

Allows you to view your generation history without creating a personal account
Does not require email, phone number, or any personal information
Ensures only your device can access your flashcard history
Is stored locally on your device and sent with requests to identify your history

The Device ID is a randomly generated identifier that cannot be used to personally identify you.

4. No Permanent File Storage

Original PDF files are NOT stored on our servers. When you upload a PDF, we extract the text content for processing and immediately discard the original file. Only the generated flashcards and a reference to the original filename are saved.

This means:

Your uploaded documents never persist on our infrastructure
Text extraction happens in memory and is temporary
We cannot retrieve or reproduce your original PDF files

5. Rate Limiting

To ensure fair usage of our service, we implement rate limiting based on IP addresses. This allows us to:

Provide equal access to all users
Prevent abuse of the service
Maintain service quality and availability

6. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

OpenAI API: For flashcard generation. Subject to OpenAI's privacy policy and API data usage terms.

7. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including:

Secure HTTPS connections for all data transmission
Database encryption for stored data
Regular security reviews and updates

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access your stored flashcard history through the App
Have your data automatically deleted after 30 days
Request immediate deletion by contacting us
